Canada & Alaska – 23-Day Escorted Tour (2012)

The Great Northern Adventure - Hosted by Stephen Jennings

Back in August 2012, I had the pleasure of leading a wonderful group of Hawke’s Bay travellers on an unforgettable adventure through Canada and Alaska. It was one of my first long-haul escorted tours, and even now, it stands out as one of the most spectacular trips I’ve ever hosted.

We began in Vancouver, exploring the waterfront and Stanley Park before boarding the Rocky Mountaineer for one of the world’s most scenic rail journeys through the Canadian Rockies. From Whistler and Jasper to the turquoise waters of Lake Louise and the alpine beauty of Banff, each day brought new landscapes, wildlife, and stories to share.

To finish, we joined a seven-night cruise aboard Holland America Line, sailing the Inside Passage north to Juneau, Skagway, and Ketchikan. Drifting past towering glaciers and spotting whales from the deck was something none of us will ever forget — the perfect ending to a journey that blended adventure and comfort in true YouTravel style.

A Few Words from Stephen

“There was something special about standing on the deck of the ship in Glacier Bay, surrounded by ice and mountains, hearing the crack of the glacier echo through the valley. Everyone went quiet - it was breathtaking. That’s the kind of moment that makes leading these tours so rewarding.”
